Spontaneous Family Symmetry Breaking And Fermion Mixing
We propose a theory to describe fermion mixing. The theory respects the maximal abelian family symmetries which are spontaneously broken down at a large scale. We find that quark mixing can be well described in this theory. Some concrete models are constructed. The crucial point for model building is to introduce some new particles which are SU(2) gauge singlets and carry -1/3 electric charge. ...
متن کاملSpontaneous Symmetry Breaking through Mixing
We discuss a model, in which the negative mass square needed in the Higgs mechanism is generated by mixing with a heavy scalar. We have two scalar doublets in the standard model. Phenomenological properties of the heavy new scalar are discussed. The heavy scalar can be detected by the LHC. In the Standard Model (SM) the masses of the Wand Z-bosons and of the fermions (leptons and quarks) are in...
متن کاملFermion Masses and Mixing Angles from SU (3) Family Symmetry
We propose a model based on SU(3) family symmetry which leads to a successful description of quark and lepton masses and mixing angles including approximate bi-maximal mixing in the neutrino sector suitable for the LOW or quasi-vacuum solar solutions, with the atmospheric angle predicted to be accurately maximal due to the SU(3) symmetry. The model predicts a CHOOZ angle θ13 ∼ |Vub|. The SU(3) ...
متن کاملFermion mass without symmetry breaking
We examine a model of reduced staggered fermions in three dimensions interacting through an SO(4) invariant four fermion interaction. The model is similar to that considered in a recent paper by Ayyer and Chandrasekharan [1]. We present theoretical arguments and numerical evidence which support the idea that the system develops a mass gap for sufficiently strong four fermi coupling.without prod...
متن کاملMacroscopic Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and its Absence for Fermion Grading Symmetry
We introduce a criterion named macroscopic spontaneously symmetry breaking, for short MSSB, for general quasi-local systems with any statistics. It is formulated based on the idea that each pair of distinct phases (appeared in spontaneous symmetry breaking) should be disjoint not only for the total system but also for every outside system of a local region specified by the given quasi-local str...
